The United States will begin its fourth year using ICD-10-CM and this year will include numerous changes to go into effect October 1, 2019, resulting in a total of 72,184 codes. The changes include 273 new codes, 21 deleted codes, and 30 description revisions. And while the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) may not have finalized all of the sweeping proposed shifts to severity designations for this code set, those changes that are now final are likely to impact reimbursement.
