Description Biography Continuing Education

The United States will begin its fourth year using ICD-10-CM and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has completed an in-depth analysis of Comorbid Conditions/Complications (CCs) and Major Comorbid Conditions/Complications (MCCs). The analysis resulted in recommendations to change the severity designation of approximately 2,000 diagnosis codes. These changes ignited much commentary regarding which severity designations were changed and reasoning behind the changes. How will these changes impact your job? What is the reasoning for the changes (e.g., moderate malnutrition an MCC while severe malnutrition is a CC)? How do these changes impact the clinical documentation integrity professionals?

The changes in CC/MCC designation also have an impact on quality professionals as all pressure injuries now carry the severity designation of CC. This change also means that all pressure ulcers will impact the Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) Reduction Program. How will quality professionals prepare?

Attend this webcast so you can develop an action plan for the coming year and understand all of the impacts to ICD-10-CM codes, changes that will impact policy decisions, and more.
