Description Biography Continuing Education

Each year the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) proposed rule contains impactful changes, including changes to the ICD-10-CM/PCS classification systems, MS-DRGs, as well as New Technology Add-On Payments (NTAPs). Proposed changes are often a mixed bag for hospitals, some having positive and some negative impacts. Last year, the many complication comorbid (CC) and major CC (MCC) designation changes requested by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in the FY2020 IPPS proposed rule did not make it into the Final Rule, with CMS stating they would postpone the changes to FY2021. Whether good or bad, it is important to understand the proposed changes in the coding and methodology in order to prepare your facility and coders promptly. As we have learned with the recent public health emergency, it pays to prepare.

During this ICD10monitor webcast, coding authority Laurie Johnson will provide essential education on the changes contained in the FY2021 IPPS proposed rule. She'll update attendees on the potential CC/MCC designation changes that were postponed until FY2021 and will help facilities prepare for and identify NTAPs. And, she'll explain proposed changes for ICD-10-CM/PCS and in the MS-DRG methodology so that the needed coding education, adjustments in the chargemaster, and updates to coding guidelines can occur on a timely basis. Register now and get prepared for the coming changes.
