Does your clinical documentation improvement program go beyond just reporting on Medicare patients to include working folks, young men, women and children whose lives are covered by commercial payers? You may be doing your "DRG coding audits" but are you really looking at the physician documentation to see if it is saying what it should. Are you looking at the clinical significance of your documentation for your non-Medicare population as well? What are the Severity of Illness (SOI) and Risk of Mortality (ROM) of ALL of your patients? Are you looking at patient safety? Are you ensuring that you demonstrate quality to all of your patients? You really need to know what you don't know.
